I'm having a permissions problem when installing/using DUB for my BlackBerry

Why is this happening?

RIM/BlackBerry forces all applications running on their phones to adhere to a strict security policy, which means that when DUB tries to access your address book, make calls to the server, etc., the operating system prompts the user for permission.

We stress in the install screen to accept all these permissions, otherwise DUB will not work correctly or some features will not be available to you. However, sometimes these settings are preset or were set in the past and thus the user never sees the prompts.  Sometimes the error "uncaught exception, permission denied" appears, and other times certain DUB functionalities simply are not available.
Please see below to fix your permissions settings for DUB.  Please note that if you are connected to a corporate BlackBerry server (which is likely if you got your BlackBerry through your job), these steps might not work because they could be overridden by the server.

How do I fix it?

To resolve this issue and update your permissions please follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the main blackberry menu
  2. Go to Options
  3. Go to Advanced Options
  4. Go to Applications (Applications will be in Options, not Advanced Options, for BlackBerry OS 5.0.0)

  5. Scroll down and put the cursor over DUB
  6. Click the Blackberry Menu key (the key to the left of the trackball)
  7. Click "Edit Permissions"
  8. For "Connections" click the Blackberry Menu key and press "Change Option"
  9. Click "Allow"
  10. Repeat Steps 8 and 9 for "Interactions" and "User Data"
  11. Click the BlackBerry Menu key and click "Save"
